A lot is being made of Ready Player One as a ‘dumb popcorn flick.’ Spielberg is masterful at setting up his action, there’s no doubt there and he can imbue a movie with that sense of wonder, but he can only polish a turd so far.
The Pros of Cons is a book that embraces convention culture — and not just when it comes to comic book conventions either. The book imagines a weekend in which four very different groups of people come together in one convention center over a single weekend. Cue the shenanigans.
For anyone who unreservedly adored the film, this pick-up is a no-brainer. There are so many small details and thoughtful elements packing into the extras that it can only deepen and expand appreciation for The Shape of Water, Guillermo del Toro’s love letter to monsters (literally).

All in all, it’s unfortunate that the Tasty cookbook was disappointing. Paging through this book is a trite and underwhelming experience. I’ll stick to scrolling through Tasty’s videos instead.
Pacific Rim Uprising is fun, even if it doesn’t quite recapture the surprising delight of the original. It has its low moments, but it keeps chugging along despite them and makes up for those missteps.
‘Love, Simon’ is funny and if you’re looking for a coming of age tale (and a gay one at that!) that isn’t too trope-y or tragic you are in for a treat. It’s a fun teenage comedy, and you’ll find yourself caring for all of these kids.
Tomb Raider is a fun enough action-adventure flick with a strong female hero who goes through an actual arc from being a bit of a screwup to a motivated adventurer.
