Ready for Person of Interest season four to hit our television screens this Fall? I sure am. After leaving off with a literally explosive season finale, I’m itching to see what’s going to happen next with Team Machine. By the end of season three, everything was a mess. Samaritan has been activated and promptly began observing and spying on the world around it while the Machine got pushed to the wayside. People died, including fan favorite Hersh, and Team Machine was split up.

Thanks to the Machine and quick work from Root, our team managed to get away with their lives. Scattered across the city, they’ve been given new identities and new lives to live. They’ve been asked to be normal, which for a group of people who are supposed to be dead anyway, living a normal life hasn’t ever been on the agenda. Needless to say, they’re probably not adjusting well. Hopefully the Machine has something in store for them soon.

At San Diego Comic Con, exclusive sneak peek footage was released and gave viewers a clue as to how the season is going to begin. Check it out:

To kick it off, it looks like we’ve got some awesome guest starts coming down the pike. Frederick Weller (In Plain Sight) makes an appearance alongside Mad Men’s Cara Buono in a provocative scene that leaves the viewer wondering just how the world is going to react to the prospect of artificial intelligence. It also brings up the question about Buono’s character, because we’ve never seen her before but she’s obviously a presence and very clearly deadly. Could another group be stepping into the artificial intelligence race, or is she another piece of the Samaritan puzzle? Obviously the preview leaves more questions than answers.

The best part of the trailer, though, is the fact Team Machine is keeping in touch. John Reese and Harold Finch, under their new identities, meet mysteriously over chess matches in the park. Root struts around like she owns the place and keeps tabs on Shaw. Lionel Fusco still appears to be tucked safely away amongst the NYPD, trying to clean up the mess left by a war between two computers with artificial intelligence.

However, it seems even Samaritan can’t keep Team Machine down as we get to see from Reese and Finch’s meeting.

“We don’t need jobs, Harold, we need a purpose.”

Even in the face of dying, Team Machine doesn’t shy away. They have a purpose and there are numbers that need them. There’s no doubt there will be challenges as they step back into their old roles while trying to remaining under the radar, but I have every belief that the team will step up and save the day. They always do.

From the preview, and from updates on Twitter, it seems one of our old friends will be making an appearance or two. Elias (Enrico Colantoni) is still up to his old tricks and I dearly hope he’ll play a huge part in making sure Team Machine succeeds in their current state. If there’s one thing I love about this show, it is the fact that even though they’re emphasizing the ever evolving world of surveillance, we still get a little taste of the old world mob through Elias and his crew. Where ever Elias is, something interesting is bound to happen. I’m just excited Enrico Colantoni will stick with the cast and continue on with Person of Interest because he brings a much needed, rich dynamic to the team.
