Christian Robinson’s You Matter is exactly the kind of picture book we need in these trying times. Children need to know that they matter regardless of how they may feel about themselves, regardless of their circumstances, and regardless of what may be going on around them. Through simple prose and meaningful illustrations, Robinson tells children just that: they matter.
The Phantom Twin is a clever, heart-breaking story that will run your emotions ragged from beginning to end. Lisa Brown does a fantastic job of pulling it all together with her gorgeous artwork and wonderful story telling.
While I may have put “so far” in the title, there’s a good chance that we’ll be able to confidently say by the end of the year that Emily Skrutskie’s Bonds of Brass was our all-time favorite sci-fi novel of the year.
I never would have thought that a series about hockey, baking, and romance would be one of the best reads of my 2020 quarantine and yet I couldn’t get enough of Ngozi Ukazu’s Check, Please!
