NYCC 2018: Friday Highlights

Less crowded than the weekend, but crazier than Thursday, it’s time to start Friday off right with our panel highlights! We’re excited by the offerings this year, particularly what diverse panels are on offer, all of the Dungeons & Dragons love, and Netflix bringing their new shows to the stage for everyone to discover! Dreamworks Voltron Legendary Defender, a Netflix Original Series
10:30 AM – 11:30 AM @ Hammerstein Ballroom

Join the cast and crew of Voltron as they revisit the last seven seasons of the show and tease the final chapter that’s coming to Netflix later this year! If you’re a fan, you won’t want to miss out on this one.

Batman: The Complete Animated Series Deluxe Limited Edition Blu-ray Box Set

With the release of the remastered Blu-ray later in 2018, the cast and crew of this beloved show are celebrating with a panel! The voice actors and producers will be on hand to talk about the series… and they might even give away a few prizes too!

Building Worlds with The Handmaid’s Tale Costume Designer Ane Crabtree

The costume designer for The Handmaid’s Tale is on hand to discuss worldbuilding through costume design and how your uniqueness and creativity can lend itself to that. This sounds like it’s worth a trek away from the convention center to hear about this one!

Diversity in Cosplay

Join some amazing panelists who are prepared to discuss their diverse perspectives on the cultural impact, barriers, triumphs, and empowerment in the cosplay community. It’s all about a passion for the characters they portray and these guys have that in spades!

Critical Contracts and Copyrights for the Comic Book Creator
12:15 PM – 1:15 PM @ Room 1C03

Perhaps a niche pick, but one that is interesting for anyone who wants to break into comics. In this panel, attorney Thomas A. Crowell, Esq. author of “The Pocket Lawyer for Comic Book Creators”— the first dedicated legal guide for the comic book industry— will show you how to protect your copyright and negotiate key contracts every comic book creator MUST know. Critical for anyone who doesn’t want to get themselves into a legal bind.

Building Your Own Themyscira: Connecting with Other Geek Bosses

It’s all about girl power in this roundtable discussion focusing on finding a place in the geek community. With tips on networking, collaboration, and a focus on promoting community over competition, this panel is determined to get you your own tribe to help you succeed.

Berger Books: The Second Wave

After an amazing first wave of books, Karen Berger is back with some outstanding offerings that we at Nerdophiles are already in love with. Join her and the creators she’s cultivated to make her second wave of books even more interesting and entertaining than the first. We recommend literally every title in this wave and you need to go find out why!

American Gods

Join Neil Gaiman and the cast of American Gods for an exclusive look at season two! Things get more complicated as the New Gods plot their revenge and Mr. Wednesday continues to try to recruit the Old Gods for war.

#OwnVoices Worlds: How Writers Build Authenticity Into Their Diverse Worlds

Join a diverse group of panelists as they talk about what #OwnVoices means to the world of sci-fi and fantasy these days. Focusing on their own experiences and using those to craft compelling and diverse worlds and narratives, they’re doing some of the best worldbuilding with authenticity.

With the rise of voice actor recognition, it’s interesting to dive into that world and there’s no one better to do it with than a Guinness World Record holder and a Director/Singer. Join them as they take the audience through the voiceover industry and how to find and develop your own unique voice.

Marvel’s Runaways

Marvel’s Runaways is headed to Madison Square Garden, for the very first time, with an action-packed panel, Q&A and never-before-seen-footage. Find out what’s to come for the highly-anticipated Season Two of the Hulu Original Series, Marvel’s Runaways.

Boy Meets World 25th Anniversary Reunion

Has it really been twenty-five years?! Join original cast members Cory, Eric, and Topanga at the Javits! Feel the nostalgia as Ben Savage, Will Friedle, and Danielle Fishel reunite and reminisce on 25 years of Boy Meets World!

Netflix Presents: Big Mouth
4:00 PM – 5:00 PM @ Room 1A06

Join Nick Kroll, John Mulaney, Jessi Klein, and Jason Mantzoukas, along with executive producers as they take on NYCC with an exclusive live read from a new episode of the highly-anticipated second season. And with a recommendation that the crowd be 16+, you know things are going to get interesting!

Agent Carter and Besame Cosmetics: A Heroic Match
4:00 PM – 5:00 PM @ Cosplay Central Stage

Founder and cosmetic historian Gabriela Hernandez of Bésame Cosmetics shares the experience of working with Marvel to expand the story of our favorite Agent, Peggy Carter. She will discuss how Bésame played a role in the television series, how they combined Stark-level tech with beauty and the power of the perfect shade of red lipstick.

Art & Arcana: The Visual History of Dungeons & Dragons

When it comes to the history of Dungeons & Dragons, the truth is often stranger than fiction. Join the superstar author team of “Dungeons & Dragons – Art & Arcana: A Visual History” as they discuss the evolution of the game’s visuals–from homebrew doodles to some of most iconic art in the fantasy genre. 

#METOO to #TIMESUP: An Action Summit for Comics

#Metoo started a movement, and now #timesup for change in comics!  An all-star lineup of female and gender-nonconforming pros brings its best ideas for transforming our industry into a truly safe, genuinely diverse, creatively thriving workplace and fandom. 

Nightflyers World Premiere Screening and Q&A
4:30 PM – 6:00 PM @ Hammerstein Ballroom

Experience the terror with an exclusive world premiere screening of the highlyanticipated SYFY series, Nightflyers, based on the novella by George R.R. Martin. Women Incorporated: Webtoon Empowers Creators

Webtoon has one of the most diverse rosters of creators, with more than 65% female creators and 75% female readership – astonishing figures in the entertainment community! Hear from some of Webtoon’s top creators on how they broke into the business, found their voice, and some of the challenges they met along the way.

Netflix & Chills
7:30 PM – 10:00 PM @ Main Stage 1-D

The midnight hour is close at hand with Netflix’s Mega Block of chills, thrills, and everything else of the other-worldly variety. Join the casts of Umbrella Academy, The Haunting of Hill House and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina as they descend upon New York Comic Con to discuss these highly anticipated new series. Plus, get a first look at The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance before anyone else.
