Rejoice The Good Place is forking back! I don’t know about you all, but I’m so excited to watch season two of The Good Place. Season one was definitely a whirlwind, filled with twists and turns that kept us on our toes. And I’ll be the first to say, I enjoyed it way too much. I fell in love with the hot mess that was Eleanor Shellstrop. She was hilarious, and reminded us all that nobody is 100% good all the time.

At the end of season one the architect, Michael, got approval from his boss to reset the Good Place and tweak all the things he did wrong. So our friends Eleanor, Chidi, Tahani, and Jason all had their memories erased by him. Thankfully, Eleanor was able to sneakily write herself a note and stuff it in Janet’s mouth before Michael wiped their memories.

Season two picks up right where the finale left off. Michael has succeeded in resetting everything and plans to keep Eleanor and company separated from each other. He thinks his plan is working but he’s actually being swindled by Eleanor. Which I think is hilarious when you think about it because Michael is trying to torture her! Even with her memories gone, Eleanor still seems to be one step ahead of Michael and his team.

The episode follows each character as Michael introduces them to the Good Place. First up of course is Eleanor, then Chidi, followed by Tahani, and lastly Jason.

Eleanor’s just been welcomed back to the Good Place. She meets her soulmate and he turns out to be a complete hottie. There’s just one problem, he has an obsession with the gym. Every time Eleanor tries to talk to him, he disappears to go workout. It’s a good thing that her soulmate leaves because Eleanor sets out to hunt down Chidi to find out what he knows. Eleanor knows something is up because of the note she received. So naturally, she’s suspicious of everyone she comes into contact with in the Good Place.

Chidi’s up next. Michael calls him into his office and breaks the news to him that he’s dead. Chidi is excited to meet with all the writers he’s ever looked up to chat over breakfast and dinner. Michael quickly puts a pin in Chidi’s plans by lying to him about his icons being in the Bad Place. Chidi actually takes the news pretty well and embarks with Michael to meet his soulmate.

If you remember the Chidi from last season, he has a very hard time choosing any one thing. So when Michael tells him that the calculations for his soulmate got screwed up, Chidi gets worried. And he has every right to be because Michael tells him that he must choose between two women to be his soulmate. Just when Chidi has voiced his decision, Michael appears and tells him that the opposite girl is his soulmate. Poor, Chidi!

I think out of everyone, Tahani is the easiest to torture. She pretty much hates everything; so when Michael introduces her soulmate, Tahani can’t help but notice how short he is. Then there’s the house, the ceilings aren’t high enough for her to stand. The worse part though? There’s a painting of her sister on the wall and her soulmate is in love with her sister’s music.

Then there’s Jason. Remember how he coveted his man-cave in season one? Well that’s completely gone because his new soulmate is another monk who literally won’t leave his side, for anything! So he devised a plan to get away from him that connected him to Eleanor, but they had no idea who each other was.

Meanwhile, Michael and his team are eagerly trying to get Eleanor drunk so she can deliver a disaster instead of a normal speech. But Eleanor isn’t having it. She’s focused on keeping a clear head so that she can track down Chidi to figure out what’s really going on. Just when she’s about to give in and take a shot of alcohol she overhears someone say Chidi’s name. Excited to finally find him, she slides the drinks over to someone else at the bar. Chidi and Eleanor chat about the note while Tahani takes the shots Eleanor left at the bar.

Michael’s plan backfires when Tahani is the one who gets wasted and sets a fire during the party, forcing everyone to wrap up and go home. Eleanor and Chidi end up back at her place trying to figure out how they are connected. One by one the group is reunited. Michael tries to keep Chidi and Eleanor apart by interrupting their conversation. Suddenly Tahani walks in, then her soulmate, then Jason with Janet, followed by his soulmate, and lastly, Eleanor’s soulmate arrives all claiming that they were worried sick.

But Eleanor figures out that something is up and claims her soulmate is lying. That’s when she breaks the news to everyone that there’s foul play happening in The Good Place.  Now that the cat is out of the bag, Michael laughed his evil laugh and wiped their memories once again. This time he made sure that Janet didn’t leave any notes behind.

Looks like the third time’s the charm, or at least that’s what Michael thinks! He did go behind his bosses back to reset the experiment for a third time. So it appears Eleanor and company aren’t the only ones who need to watch their backs this season. I suspect Michael will be getting himself into a lot of trouble this season.

What are some of y’all thoughts about the show?

  1. I wonder if there is any possibility of collaboration between the four lost souls and Michael? He doesn’t want his “Good Place” to fail, which would force him into “retirement.” They can’t really want it to fail either, since that would mean going into one of the painful hells that the other demons would provide. Could Michael convince them to pretend to suffer more there, and not expose that they know where they are?

    1. Looks like I predicted the next plot twist. Michael is proposing to collaborate at the end of “Dance Dance Resolution.” Don’t know if they will accept or not…
