Working with legendary filmmaker Spike Lee (Crooklyn) is only a dream for most, but for actress Ilfenesh Hadera (She’s Gotta Have It), it’s a dream turned reality—a flourishing relationship that continues to expand with project after project. For Lee’s latest film, Highest 2 Lowest, an English-language remake of Akira Kurosawa’s (Drunken Angel) Japanese film High and Low, Lee cast Hadera to star alongside Denzel Washington (Malcolm X), Jeffrey Wright (American Fiction), and A$AP Rocky (Monster).
Hadera plays Pam King, the philanthropic wife of music mogul David King (Washington) and mother to their teenage son Trey (Aubrey Joseph, Cloak & Dagger). When Trey and his best friend Kyle (Elijah Wright, Godfather of Harlem) go missing during a basketball camp, only Trey returns—sparking a crime thriller as the King family and Kyle’s father, Paul (Wright), search for him by any means necessary.
Nerdophiles had the pleasure of chatting with Hadera about Pam’s strength, what drives her, and what her fourth collaboration with Lee has brought her as both an artist and a human. Check out our conversation here:
