Some strange things happen to Wayward teens in the creepy town of Tall Pines, but the good thing is that Alex Dempsey (Mae Martin, Feel Good) is there to crack these mysterious cases wide open, right? Created by Martin, Wayward presents as a two-fold story that follows 2 relationships that eventually intertwine in the most organic yet interesting ways. Wayward is a rare limited series that brings you into the fold, leaving you to second-guess your suspicions at every turn.

Starting with best friends Abbie (Sydney Topliffe, Murdoch Mysteries) and Leile (Alyvia Alyn Lind, Blended), Leile is still struggling with the loss of her sister. That loss, along with the fractured relationship with her mother, is causing her to spiral in more ways than one. But when Abbie’s parents notice similar changes in her, they believe Leile is dragging her down and force her into an experimental academic program for Wayward teens at Tall Pines Academy (TPA). But Leile forces her way to the academy to save her best friend and ends up with more than she bargains for.

Then we have Alex, who is creating a family with the love of his life, Laura (Sarah Gadon, Belle), a TPA alum, who moves back after Alex has an unfortunate on-the-job incident. While Laura seems happy to be back, Alex notices several eerie circumstances with the TPA students, which prompts him to question everything. Oh, and the ultimate ringleader who serves nice nasty with a side of a fear of God is none other than Evelyn Wade (Toni Collette, Knives Out).

Is Laura happy to see the woman who made her into who she is today? Will Alex and Evelyn get along? Is Evelyn playing chess while everyone else is playing checkers? Can Evelyn help Leile, or will Evelyn end up being manipulated herself? Do the unorthodox and downright harsh practices at Tall Pines Academy actually work in terms of providing structure for the kids?
