Kickstarter released it’s Year in Review for 2013 to let all of us nerds reminisce on some of the great things that have come out of crowd-sourcing funds. We’re big fans of projects like the Pebble Watch, Goldiblox, and the Veronica Mars movie that have come out of Kickstarter and been fully realized, so this is our attempt at showcasing some of the current projects that are out there and deserving of some funds.

dividerGeeky Sprinkles: Fun Sprinkle Shapes for Geeky Baking

sprinklesFor all of your viewing-party needs, The Geeky Hostess (whose website I also recommend) there’s a few days left in this Kickstarter campaign to make all of your geeky friends jealous during your next Harry Potter marathon or the kick-off of Capaldi on Doctor Who. Tara Theoharis (The Geeky Hostess!) has even gone a step further and provided the higher-level rewards with complimenting sanding sugar and geeky-themed recipes.  I love baking (I’m not necessarily great at it, but I love it) and can’t wait to see what kind of other geeky sprinkles Tara can come up with once these get funded!

Under $20 Rewards: For $12, you get one bottle of sprinkles of your choice (Police Box, Steampunk, or Lightning). Add $8 to that and you get two bottles of your choice. Spend $20 and get the Police Box Sprinkle Kit with the sprinkles, two sanding sugars, and three recipes to use with the sprinkles.

Ends on February 19, 2014.

She Makes Comics

shemakescomicsPssst, whether you believe it or not, sometimes it’s hard for women to get into the comics world – as creators, as fans, whatever – and this documentary is aiming to put the spotlight the contributions made by women to the industry. As someone still getting into comics, this project intrigues me to no end and I’d love to see it funded. They’ve already started interviewing people, like the ones pictured above, and have plans to interview more. They also seem to have plans to debut a highlight reel at San Diego Comic Con this year.

Under $20 Rewards: For $5, you’ll get a shout-out in the credits of the documentary. For $10, you’ll get a digital download of the SDCC highlight reel coming this summer. And for $20, you’ll get a digital copy of the film to call your own!

Ends on March 7, 2014.

Period Panties

periodpantiesI have a confession to make. Period Panties was the whole inspiration behind scouring Kickstarter for geeky, nerdy, and all around awesome projects. They’re already ridiculously over-funded with three weeks to go, but that’s because it’s a hilarious and fantastic idea (and already a tried-and-true product by the maker). Not only is the artwork awesome, as seen in the picture above, but look at those puns that sit on the front of each pair. They’re going to be black on the inside – for reasons I’m not going to explain because I don’t want to talk about this to the internet – and the great tragedy is that I can only afford one pair.

Under $20 Rewards: For $5, you’ll get a random “Cramp Stamp” temporary tattoo of one of the characters seen above. Scrounge together $13 (like me!) and you’ll get to pick the pun of your choice for your very own pair of Period Panties.

Ends March 9, 2014.
