In this newest entry in the Freeda the Frog Series, Freeda and her family are back again to meet some brand new friends: Jessica and her two mothers, Morgan and Irene. The tadpoles have never had met anyone with two mothers before, but they soon find out that it does not makes any difference. By becoming friends with Jessica’s parents, the tadpoles discover that families don’t all have to be the same, and that no matter what, love really is all that you need.

Nerdophiles Review: ★★★★☆

This is an illustrated pre-k or early elementary audience book that teaches kids that families come in all different forms.

The book is medium-length at 24 pages long, and I found the illustrations colorful and eye-catching. However, I thought the ratio of text per page was a little heavy, leaving some of the pages imbalanced.  Also, I found the text size itself to be a little small for learning young readers. Because of this, I think that the book is probably better read by adults to kids, instead of by kids themselves.

Overall, this is a cute picture book with a positive message of inclusivity – families may look different (single parents, same-sex parents, etc.), but kindness and love is universal.
