Marvel has yet to confirm Krysten Ritter for the lead in their Netflix series, but according to Deadline, the Breaking Bad actress has won the role thanks in part to her chemistry with The Following’s Mike Colter, who is likely Marvel’s top choice for Luke Cage.

AKA Jessica Jones follows a superhero suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder that causes her to give up her superheroics for the private detective business, based on Brian Michael Bendis’ Alias comic storyline. It would be the second of Marvel’s four Netflix series. Luke Cage and Iron Fist are also in development to have their own series. Daredevil, which is currently filming, will be the first to premiere in May 2015.

The Netflix series is being written and produced by Dexter’s Melissa Rosenberg. Interestingly, Rosenberg was also a writer on The WB’s short-lived TV series Birds of Prey, about DC’s Black Canary, Oracle, and the Huntress fighting crime in a Batman-less Gotham.

Marvel’s AKA Jessica Jones is guaranteed a 13-episode order and expected to be much better than Birds of Prey. No premiere date has been announced yet.

Ritter is probably best known as Jane from Breaking Bad, but also had memorable turns on Gilmore Girls, Veronica Mars, and the now-defunct but forever-loved ABC comedy Don’t Trust The B—- In Apartment 23. The actress brings a sharp wit and inherent cool to all of her characters that would fit right into the Marvel Universe.

UPDATE: Marvel makes it official.

“Krysten Ritter has the type of range, spanning the comic to the tragic, that makes for the stuff of the best Marvel heroes.” Jeph Loeb, Executive Producer/Marvel’s Head of Television, said in a statement. “As Jessica Jones, Krysten will bring one of the most beloved new characters of the past decade to life in a way we know will delight her longtime fans and introduce her to many more.”

AKA Jessica Jones is set to premiere on Netflix in 2015, sometime after Daredevil. Until then, let’s celebrate!
